Shaw to apply to crtc for all news Channel Licence

Summary
According to Vlessing, (2014) in his article “Shaw to apply to CRTC for all-news channel licence” in Media in Canada, Shaw Communication recently applied to the CRTC for a licence in order to operate an  all-news channel, which the company hopes to add to their specialty channel featuring all-news. CBC, CTV and other news organizations already provides all news channels; however, Shaw’s all-news services would be different because it would be offered locally. The new channel will be called Global News 1 and it will “a new hybrid local/national, English category C” .There are no other companies offering these kinds of services locally. The new channel will be given as a choice and customers won’t be obligated to purchase the new channel. Shaw has another news channel in British Columbia known as Global News BC1.

Opinion
An all news channel is interesting, but personally I would not purchase an all news channel. My reason is the news carries bad news. Most of the stories in the news nowadays are about murder, violence, and robbery, who want to hear bad news all day 24.7. No thank you.

Questions
1 Would you get an all news channel?
2 Do you recommend young children watch the news?
